Bringing the outdoors and nature into teaching

Kick off the Great Outschool Campout with a workshop led by Rachel Tidd, author of “Wild Learning: Practical Ideas to Bring Teaching Outdoors,” as well as Wild Math and Wild Reading curriculums. Rachel will host a 60-minute workshop for educators and parents of Outschool learners. This session will focus on how you can bring the outdoors and nature into your classrooms.
Some of the ideas that will be shared include
- How to use sit spots for building writing and observation skills, and how to bring that learning into the virtual environment
- How to create focused time in nature, including searching for and documenting different species
- Bird sound observation and recording activities, including how to use the Merlin app to identify and document observations
